It's an interesting thing. One moment, things are going so well. It doesn't seem that anything can go wrong. School, work, relationships, you name it; it seems to be great. Then; without warning, one thing may start to go wrong. It seems that when that first thing goes wrong, it triggers an avalanche of other bad to begin, and within even hours of feeling so great, we may feel that we are helpless and without hope. Life has just thrown us a curveball.

During this time of stress, people may try to tell you that 'things will be ok', and that 'you're wonderful, don't worry about it, you'll be fine'. Now, most likely all of these things that your loved ones are telling you are true, but it is hard to swallow. So what are some things that you can do to pick yourself back up? Here are some ideas.

1) It's important for you to have some alone time. Some call it "ME" time. Whatever you want to call it, do it. During this alone time; whatever you do, DO NOT THINK ABOUT THE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN BRINGING YOU DOWN. Some things that I have found helpful are watching movies. Now, it's not easy to not think about these things. But, alone time where you don't have to think about that is important.

2) Friends are always key. There is usually a reason why some of your friends have stuck around for this long in your life. They care about you. They want to help you. Have a night out, or in, with them. Have fun. DO something different. A fun activity. Anything. They will be the ones that can help you through a lot of the difficulties that you are currently facing.

There is a song that I have liked for many years by Relient K. In the song it says, "I've got to get out of here, I'm stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake, I've got to get out of here, and I'm begging you, I'm begging you, I'm begging you to be my escape".

When we find ourselves in those ruts that we don't mean to fall in, why don't we turn to our loved ones, and find a way to escape the rut that we've fallen into, and again find the joy that life brings us. Of course, curveballs will be thrown our way. But with the help of others, there is no doubt we wont be stuck in these ruts for very long. as ONE we can all FIGHT. Fight on.

Focus= Conquering

"You get what you focus on consistently". That is the key for us to obtain anything that we want in life. However, we know that it isn't as easy as just thinking about something, and then getting it. There are 5 D's that can take us off of the path to achieving our goals.

1-Doubt: 1.to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe.2.to distrust.a feeling of uncertainty about the truth, reality, or nature of something.

When doubt enters into our mind, we become uncertain, distrust, or even question whether or not our goals or attainable, or even if our goal is worth pursuing. We have the feeling that our goal is unattainable. We feel as if it's a "dumb thing". We question whether or not we should continue on. We begin to be dissuaded from doing what we had intended to do. Ways that I have found to fight discouragement: 1) Don't be afraid to tell others about your goal, and that you are discouraged about it. Your friends are there to help you. They can help you through anything. 2) Take some time for you. Rest, or do anything that you really enjoy. Unwind. You'll feel much better.

3- Distraction:4.that which distracts, divides the attention, or prevents concentration: The distractions of the city interfere with my studies.

Distraction takes our mind off of our goal. When this happens; we begin to wander off of the path that would lead us to what we want. It is true that staying focused on our goal can be difficult at times. It's important for us to find ways to keep our focus on our goal. I have found useful that writing the goal down, and placing it in a place where I can see it often helps. Little reminders can help keep us focused on what we truly desire.

4-Lack of Diligence: 1.(the opposite of)constant and earnest effort to accomplish what is undertaken; persistent exertion of body or mind.

Keeping focused on our goal day in and day out is sometimes much more difficult than we originally imagine. Some days; when you get up, you don't have the determination to do what is needed to achieve what you want. During the marathon training, some early Saturday mornings I found it extremely difficult to get out of bed and to go on a run. I had to always remember what my end goal was, and it would give me a motivation to go out and to do what I needed. Some days, a lack of diligence did get to me. It is useful for us to use things to help motivate us. It could be a picture of someone we look up to. A memorable quote, or a number of other things to help keep us motivated.

5- Disbelief:1.the inability or refusal to believe or to accept something as true.

Disbelief roots from doubt. As we begin to doubt whether or not our goals are achievable, we begin to think that our goal is unattainable. We don't believe(disbelief) that our goal is worth it, or that we can even accomplish such a goal. As this happens, we give up on what we are trying to do. If we don't want to fall into a state of disbelief; first, don't let doubt creep in. Use the techniques from fighting the other D's to help you continue to believe. Don't disbelieve. Keep your goal posted somewhere that you can see it often. Keep motivational items around, and also keep the end in view.

As we fight these destructive D's, we will find that we are well on our way to achieving whatever we put our minds to. No goal is unachievable as long as you can keep these Destructive D's out of our life. If we happen to let a few D's in, that is ok. We can soon eliminate them from our lives. Our friends and family are great resources in helping us. I know that we can all do whatever we set our minds to. So go out, set goals, and achieve whatever it is that you want to do.

Team ONEfight

Pushing Forward

Hello all you faithful readers. First, I just wanted to thank you all for reading this blog. It may not be many of you, but for those who do we really appreciate it.

There comes moments where we wonder if the things and ideas that we have as an organization are worth it. Questions of whether we should continue to further our causes.

The other day, I was browsing around on facebook. I was looking through a group that I had joined a while back for a person who had passed away. I couldn't help but read through the wall of the group and see what people had to say about the tragic passing of this and other individuals. It was truly sad. But through and because of that experience it gave me a renewed determination to keep pushing on, and moving forward. That is the foundation of the ONEfight organization. A 'place for individuals to come together to help each other out'. That is what these people were doing on this groups page. They were there to console each other and to help each other out.

Together we can push forward and make a difference in the lives of those around us. We're just a real life version of those facebook groups. Lend a hand. Help someone in need. Pay it forward as the movie would say. By doing these very simple things is the essence of what our organization is all about.

HELP!

Hi everyone.
We hope that you are all doing really well. We have one item of business that we'd like to discuss with you. It has come time for us to order more remember bands(thank to all who purchased our first set). What we'd like, is input from you. There are three options we have:
1)- We can order the same bands like we did last time. A grey band with orange ONEfight written across the actual band.
2)- We can order new ones. We can order a bright blue band with ONEfight debossed in the actual band(like the liveSTRONG bracelets).
3)- Or third, we can order a bright blue band, with ONEfight written in a neon green color.

The advantages to the new bands would be a more prominent color and it would create more of a buzz about the bands(people wondering what they were for).

We would like your opinion on what you want to see, or would like to have. The pricing would be a bit different depending on what you want. It wont be outrageous by any means. It would be about 2 dollars for options 1 or 2, and 3 dollars for option three. It's still a great deal, it'll just cost a bit more due to the amount we are ordering. So send us an email either here on facebook or to onefightorg@gmail.com.

If you'd like a band but can't financially let us know too what band you'd like, and we'll work something out for you. Remember, it's a good cause, something to help raise awareness, and it's just a dollar or two(really 3) to help those in need. One of the goals we have as an organization for 2010, is to inform communities of issues, and to raise awareness about those issues. It has come to our attention that for our organization to achieve this goal, it is important to inform our supporters of what they personally can do.

The goal of the ONEFIGHT organization is to help those throughout the world raise awareness and promote issues that they personally feel committed to. There are many ways that each of us can do this. We can volunteer at a local hospital helping those with cancer if cancer is your fight. You can donate time at a local food shelter if you want to help those who are less fortunate. The key to helping raise awareness to our individual causes is simple. Just do what you love. Over time you will come to find that the little things you have done have bettered the community. As each of us does the same thing, down the road, we will be able to turn around and reflect on the things we did to find that the world is a better place because of our efforts.

We want to support you in your efforts. Our cause is you. We want to be there for you, and help promote the things you hold dear in your everyday lives. As we strive each day to be and help those around us, we will soon find that our efforts aren’t going unnoticed, and we will find a new, more caring, and accepting community in which we live.

Until next time, keep FIGHTING.

Ryan Smith- President

www.onefight.org

Trust your gut

Hey followers. Thanks for reading. We want to be better at posting and posting things that might be of interest to you. So this is the first of a series of health stories to help educate you.

For the past year my mom has been encountering these dizzy spells. It was so random. It would only happen when she would be doing something physically. It could be walking, snowshoeing, lifting weights, or a number of other things. A few times it even lead to fainting.

Last March my brother and ONEfight executive Alex Smith had a pace maker and defibrillator put in to help a condition which he has(hyper cardio myapathy). The condition makes physical activity difficult. It leaves you tired. Doing simple things, such as walking up a flight of stairs, wears you out. The heart thinks you are running or doing something very physical. After the surgery we all went in to make sure that nothing was noticed in our family.

The dizzy spells continued for our mom. She began tests last year and nothing was found. Results kept coming back negative. But obviously something was going on. So she kept going back to the doctor and explaining the condition to doctors. It wasn't until about 2 weeks ago that something changed. They called and wanted her to come down to the hospital immediately. After further testing it was found that the bottom ventricle of her heart wasn't pumping as much blood as the top ventricle. It was decided that they would put a pacemaker in, in efforts to get the bottom ventricle pumping blood at the same rate as the top.

The surgery was today, and she is out and recovering very well. But the point of the story is that if you feel that something is going on with your body but nothing is found in tests, don't give up. You know your body better than anyone. Even if something isn't found the first, second, or even third time, and the problem is still bothering you, keep getting it checked out.

Keep fighting in your daily struggles. Keep fighting to help others with theirs. Together we can make a difference. Keep reading and we'll be chatting with you soon. Sorry that it has been so long since we have updated our blog. One of our goals is to be better at keeping this up to date. So. That could be our New Years Resolution you could say. ONEfight is continuing to take strides to better educate those in our community about the issues that each of you face on a daily basis. We are currently in the planning phases of both a volunteer kick off party for those of you who want to help us out, as well as planning a 5K this coming spring or summer to support a local organization here in the Salt Lake area. More details will follow. As always, please let us know what we can do to help you. Also, ideas and suggestions are always welcome and we'd love to hear from you. Recently in the National Football League(NFL) we saw players and coaches decked out in pink hats, gloves, wristbands, etc... You see sports teams rocking pink jerseys (usually women) to support a cause. I am sure there are other examples. Here is one that has really caught my eye lately.

On Twitter it is being called a MOVEmember. What is that? Well, what it boils down to is Mustache November. That's right. Mustache. I swear I thought they went out in the 80's but they seem to be making a comeback in recent years. My brother had one over the summer almost as a joke. Rarely do you see someone who has a mustache that is serious about it. This is real though.

Along with the LIVEstrong organization, men (girls; you know why. It's a good thing) are rocking the 'stache' during the month of November to battle mens cancer. Cancer in general. What a great idea. We were having the debate this morning whether or not we were going to take part this month. Alex and my roommate John were doing it before they even knew the whole cancer part. Now they can grow their dirty mustaches through the whole month for a cause. They were trying to talk Austin(other roommate) and I into doing it with them. There is just something about the mustache that I feel self-conscious about. I feel like people are just looking at it when I am talking to them. Plus. I look ridiculous with one. But it's for a good cause. We'll see if I end up doing it, but it is still something to think about. So, I guess I would ask each and everyone of you, What makes you move? What will you do this Movember?

Ryan Smith- ONEfight

Update

The Marathon is officially over. Will there more marathons to be run? I am undecided for now. I have been telling people that I would take a few weeks off to recover and to absorb all that went in to training and running the actual marathon, evaluate how my body feels and then to make a judgement from there. So. I figure another week or so before I come to any conclusion. The Marathon was a great experience. I was truly surprised at all the people who were there and running for their own personal causes. I saw individuals running for fallen soldiers, fathers, and one for her mom who's birthday was the day of the race. I saw running teams from all over the west who were promoting their causes. That is the spirit of the ONEfight organization. These people were doing what they loved and were promoting their causes. The marathon is over, but it's not time to stop promoting.

It is time for us to continue pushing forward. It's time for us to continue pushing our causes out into the open. We ask you. What are you going to do to promote what you feel passionately about? And how may we help you do that? We are currently planning out events you may attend that will be a good time. But let us know what we can do to help you. Together we can make a difference. So together let's get this done.

ONEfight Kick Off! Saturday the 5th

Dear ONEfight members, fans, and supporters:

This Saturday (September 5th) we will be hosting our inaugural event to kick off the launch of the ONEfight organization. I’d like to take a moment to discuss with you a few key points before you show up Saturday evening. First off, we truly appreciate you in taking the time to even think about our event and for those of you who attend, we appreciate your effort and support toward a great cause. We understand that as college aged students our funds are limited. We’ve tried to reduce the cost to you as much as possible and feel that we’ve done a good job. We ask for your understanding on a few key items. First, this isn’t a “party” that you might be accustomed to. It is a fundraiser to help us gain support. It is also a time for you to get together and meet others of our group. Because this is an event rather than a party we are limiting what is brought in. We cannot allow outside beverages to be brought in. There will be drinks here at the house and we will make sure that we have enough so don’t worry. We need to do this because as stated before, rather than a party it’s an event to get to know each other, and to support a common cause. To do so; we as an organization, feel we need to control products that enter our home and to control as you say the peace.

As far as the pricing goes here is what we’ve come up with. We understand that many would like to come and to drink. To accommodate, those who wish to drink may do so at a price of two(2) dollars upon entering. All others who wish to attend will pay a “cover” charge of a dollar (remember, this is a fundraiser). Once in, we have set up a (root)beer pong tournament. Don’t want to drink? You can play with root beer. We’ll charge two(2) dollars a team, or one(1) for individuals to enter the tourney. Games will be decided depending on how many teams are signed up. We are currently working on t-shirts and would love to have them available at the event for you. Those in attendance(whether the shirts are ready or not), will receive a discount on purchase price. We’ve decided; however, to include a VIP pass to the event. For ten(10) dollars you get, entrance(including drinking), entrance for two into the tourney, and a t-shirt. So, for coming to the party and receiving the VIP pass, you get an additional discount on the t-shirts. Questions? Please send us an e-mail.

We again appreciate your encouragement and for all that you do. Please invite friends to the event. Although the title is a fundraiser we do want to make you aware that this will be fun and enjoyable. If you have any further questions please let us know what we can do to help. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday evening.

Ryan Smith, Alex Smith, Blake Barcus, Austin Peterson.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://togetheronefight.blogspot.com/2009/08/onefight-kick-off-saturday-5th.html' title='ONEfight Kick Off! That possibly could be because I am wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do with it. I feel that the purpose of it is like that of the LIVESTRONG foundation, but every time I say to myself; "I can't do this because this is exactly what the LAF is doing", I say, there are others out there and who need support as well. So. Here it is. Some clarification. I hope....

The ONEfight organization was created to FIGHT as ONE the many ailments that we all face on a daily basis. Some face the difficulties of fighting cancer. Others; face challenges of learning disabilities, others who over come having a missing extremity, and others even depression. The reality is that each of us face some type of struggle in our every day lives. The idea of the ONEfight organization is that together we can come together as ONE and FIGHT these struggles as ONE.

The way that we can go about fighting these many struggles is a personal choice. You may want to bring awareness to the forefront by doing the things you love.

As an organization we want to bring attention to these issues. We're want to do this by bringing recognition to our organization. T-shirts, remember bands etc will help us do that. As others see these items, they will ask what it is and you will be able to advocate your cause.

You don't have to do it alone. That's what we have this group for. Feeling down or that you need someone for support? Come share your feelings with us here or be support for another. We don't have to fight these issues alone.

If you have any further comments or suggestions. I am pleased to announce the first ever tour of the ONEfight team. By team. I mean me for right now. If you want to join please do! I would love that and have this thing grow.

ONEfight is pleased to announce the ONE4YOU tour.

ONE4YOU: The ONE4YOU tour is an opportunity for you to bring to the forethought of others minds struggles you or a loved one or someone you may know is having. Here is the thought. For each race, or event that is being done on that day, we will do it in the memory of a special friend. Send in your requests for someone you'd like us to run, walk, bike or jog for and that day will be in honor of your loved one. If you want to run in an event; simply let us know who you're doing it for with a little info about them(with their consent), and we will post it for those reading our blog or tweets and they can be in all of our minds that day. With that being said let's start with announcing our schedule(mostly what I'll be doing to start: please let me know if you want to join in an event or if you're running in one and we'll add it).

AUGUST:

7th: Sandy Midnight Moon Run (5K)

22nd: Park City Marathon/ Half Marathon. No team members of ONEfight will be running the actual race. However we will be in attendance and working the event and promoting your cause.

SEPTEMBER:

5th: Possible Salt Lake City Half Marathon/Relay Team Race.

OCTOBER:

3rd: St. George Marathon

Thanks for taking the time to read for all of those who do. I am sorry about that. There has been lots going on and hopefully I'll be able to update this more. Training is going well. I find myself pushing myself to get up and go out and run on some mornings. It is such a struggle sometimes. Every day that I wake up, I hope it's not one of those days. I hope that it is a day where I get up and can't wait to go out and run for a few hours. I feel a lot better in the long distance runs as I have been training and look forward to the continuance of that.

The St. George Marathon is definitely coming up and some days I am scared about it. I ask myself questions all the time. Is it going to be hot? What happens if I am going and just absolutely can't go any further? What about the other runners? I do my best to say;"You wont quit, and you wont stop. Who cares about the other runners. This is your race".

The one thing that I continue to think about that I can't put into the back of my mind is dealing with boredom. On a few of my runs lately (mostly the long distance runs), I start getting bored. I am not sure why or what I can do to fix that. I try to tell my brain to stay focused and to concentrate. When I start getting bored my mind starts telling me that I am tired. I can't have that. Any suggestions? I guess I will continue to work on it and hope that I find a solution pretty soon.

It's been hot the past few weeks and it definitely adds an element to training. I kind of like it though. I like seeing what these elements do; or how they affect, my training. I also figure that it'll be good practice for when we are in Southern Utah running in the heat.

Over all my legs feel good. No problems to report there which is always nice. I feel good and am starting to feel much better about this marathon. As you know, it is my first one so I am INCREDIBLY nervous, and not knowing what to expect; but, I think I can blog about that later. Thanks for reading.

Ryan Smith

Training update: July 4th, 2009

Hey guys. Quick update. So. This first post will have to incorporate a lot of training days into one. From now on I hope to be a lot better. The two members of Team Morgantal have been training for the St. George Marathon since we have been back from Europe. It's been a roller coaster ride. Days where you honestly feel so great as you head out on your run. Or days when you have to tell yourself a million times that, " I need to go run today". Some days you go running, and others; I am ashamed to say, you don't go out. I have been feeling better though about my health and my pace has been picking up so it's looking up.

I wanted to stretch myself yesterday. We're about 3 months away from the marathon so I wanted to see how quickly I could get through a 13 mile run(half marathon). Not such a good idea. I decided to get up early and to head out and run to Main Street Park City and arrive before the parade started. I left and for the first 6 miles everything went well. I was keeping a good pace and my body felt good. I was running by one of the local ski resorts when it seemed that my body said.... "OK. Enough." I kept pushing. I knew things were getting bad when I was running up this trail that was the last hill of the run. It seemed so steep. Or at least that is what my body was saying. I heard a distant noise, and it repeated itself. "On your left". I turned, and a 70 ish old woman riding her mountain bike was passing me. I thought "wow, really Ryan?" I made it over the hill and up to main street. Time was alright. It can be improved. I was sore. It was a good wake up call. There is still a long way to go before I will be ready for the marathon.

Hopefully soon I will be able to have updates from other team members which now is only two(including myself). Until then. Enjoy your evening, travels, and journey's in life.

Ryan Smith
